Psychic vs. Medium, what is the difference?
A question I am asked almost every week. The short answer: all mediums are psychic, but not all psychics are mediums. The longer answer is below — written for the seeker who would like to know which door to knock on.
A psychic reads the living.
A psychic works with the energy of people who are still here — your current, your patterns, the choices that are forming in front of you and the road that those choices are quietly building. Good psychic work is practical. It speaks to relationships, vocation, timing, direction, health, the shape of a season.
The faculty itself is older than its English name. Every culture has held it — the seer at the high seat, the village wise-woman, the reader of cards or bones or breath. The instrument changes; the listening does not.
A medium reaches the other side.
A medium extends that same listening across the veil. Mediumship is the work of receiving communication from loved ones who have crossed over — names, details, the small private things that only the two of you knew. It is a slower, more reverent kind of sitting. There is often laughter; there is often weeping. Both are welcome.
Because mediumship is built on the psychic faculty, every honest medium is also a psychic. The reverse is not true. Many fine psychic readers never work with spirit, and that is a perfectly whole practice in itself.
So, what is a psychic medium?
It is the honest, full description for a practitioner who does both — reads the living and communicates with the departed. That is the work I have kept for years in the sanctum at Manitou Springs. A sitting may begin with the living and turn toward the other side without warning, because the people we love do not always wait for the question to be asked.
Which sitting should you book?
If your questions are about the road in front of you, book a private psychic reading. If you wish to hear from someone who has passed, book a mediumship sitting. If you are unsure, write and tell me what you carry — I will help you choose.
Every sitting is held in confidence. Every guest is met as they are.
— Frequently asked
Common questions, plainly answered.
- What is the difference between a psychic and a medium?
- A psychic reads the living — your energy, patterns, choices and the road ahead. A medium reaches the other side — communicating with loved ones who have crossed over. All mediums are psychic, but not all psychics are mediums.
- Are all mediums psychic?
- Yes. Mediumship is built on the same intuitive faculty a psychic uses; a medium has simply learned to extend that channel to spirit. The reverse is not true — many fine psychics never work with the departed.
- Which kind of reading do I need?
- If your questions are about the living — relationships, work, decisions, timing, direction — book a psychic reading. If you wish to hear from someone who has passed, book a mediumship sitting. If you are unsure, a private reading can begin as one and move toward the other.
- What does 'psychic medium' mean, then?
- It is the honest, full description for someone who does both — reads the living and communicates with the departed. That is the work Lady Godiva has practiced for years from the sanctum in Manitou Springs.
- Is one harder than the other?
- They ask different things of the practitioner. Psychic work asks for clarity and discernment. Mediumship asks for reverence, patience and a willingness to hold the room for grief. Neither is parlour entertainment.
